Summer seine fishing usually starts with a search for the fish. We use fish finders or echo sounders to help us in this task.
Fishing is done all year round in Northeast Finland. The fishing methods used are seine fishing, net fishing, and trap fishing. In addition to these, in summer also fyke net fishing is done. The main catch is vendace, whitefish, perch, pike, roach, ruff, and burbot, which all are commercially used fish species.
A fyke net is a certain kind of large fish trap floating on water surface.
Seine fishing in winter is probably not a familiar fishing method for most people. Here is a description of a winter seine fishing trip.
